Montana Fly Fishing
Central Montana and Western Montana is well-known for
the blue-ribbon trout streams and world class fly fishing.
From the Missouri to the Yellowstone, Montana's fly fishing
fishing offers crystal clear rock bottom streams and rivers
with spectacular landscapes.
Montana Lake Fishing
The fishing on Montana’s Flathead Lake offers
record-breaking lake trout and lake whitefish. Montana has
endless lakes, ponds, pothole ponds to catch anything from
rainbow trout, northern pike, brook trout, westslope cross
rainbows, yellow perch, kokanee, largemouth bass and
walleye.
Northwest Montana Fishing
Flathead Lake is the largest lake in Northwest Montana to
fish. Lake trout are generally deep, 150 to 200 feet.
Northwest Montana has a number of large lakes to fish
including: Swan, Bitterroot, Ashley, Lake McDonald, Hungry
Horse Reservoir, Dickey Lake and Whitefish Lake. Northwest
Montana's fishing rivers include the Flathead, Swan, Fisher,
Clark Fork and Clearwater River.
Southwest Montana Fishing
Southwest Montana is abundant in fishing from the banks of
the Blacktail Deer Creek to Canyon Ferry Lake. Fishing
Hebgen Lake outside of Yellowstone National Park is always
great time and the views are spectacular. Rainbow trout is
stocked by the FWS and the mountain whitefish are excellent
eating.
South Central Montana Fishing
Where else but the Yellowstone River! Southwest Montana
fishing is best known for the big brooks, browns, cuts, and
Yellowstone trout. The Yellowstone river stretches for 550
miles through Montana. |

North Central Montana Fishing
Start at Lake Elwell and fish for bigmouth Buffalo from
Marias River or drift boating the Missouri into the Charles
M Russell National Wildlife refuge.
The Missouri River offers brown trout, channel catfish, lake
and mountain whitefish, northern pike, paddlefish, rainbows,
smallmouth bass, walleye, yellow perch and more. The
Missouri river is a wonderful and peaceful river through the
state of Montana, sure to enjoy.
Eastern Montana Fishing
Eastern Montana fishing is abundant in river fishing to the
incredible Fort Peck Lake. Fort Peck Lake is also popular
for spearing chinook salmon and lake trout when seasonally
permitted.
Fort Peck Lake fishing is robust as a result of the stock of
walleye, chinook salmon, northern pike, and small mouth bass
by the FWS.
Eastern Montana is also known for river fishing on the
Powder, Tongue, Timber, Boxelder Creek and Yellowstone
River.

Montana Fishing for Kids
Many communities offer fishing for kids as a way to stay
away from substance abuse. The fishing these lactations
offer is generally really good as adults must catch and
release.
